Dev Log 08.20.25

(Note: We’ve been posting progress reports exclusively on Steam up to this point. We’ll be switching to posting both on Steam and on this blog from now on. Check back every Wednesday for new updates!)

With the basic tutorials done, we’re free to start moving back to new content additions. Our first new additions are on the small side, but we think they’ll be very helpful and provide a little more variety to gameplay.

We’ve wanted to find a way to organize shop inventories like we’ve organized the general inventory for a while now. For most shops, organization isn’t a problem, but for some of the bigger ones (Tessa’s, for example) it can be a slog to search through to pick out the one item you want.

We’ll be introducing product tabs in store inventories to combat this hassle. Now it will be easy to look through cooking utensils, tokens, or whatever you’re interested in.

Tessa’s new shopping categories!

Next is a slightly peculiar addition at this time, but it made sense to add it now since we were adding in shopping tabs. From now on, you’ll be able to rent rooms from the inn or hunting lodge on a nightly basis – OR you can buy a tent and go sleep for the night in the north valley.

We’ve added these mechanics for two future reasons: if you don’t have or have demolished your house (some work needs to be done on this before it can be implemented), or you’re staying abroad in another country for the night, week, or month. Of course, it will be a while before the full impact of this addition will be felt.

Finally, we’re reintroducing click foraging mechanics into the game. Right now, you can only play slot machines to earn forage items (mushrooms, herbs, etc.), but with this mechanic reintroduced into Reel Life, in select seasons you can click on (slightly hidden) forage items to earn some extra income or ingredients.

Foraging for crabapples and gems during Winter.

You’ll be able to look for mushrooms in Spring, Summer, and Fall; a variety of berries in the Summer; crabapples in the Winter; and extra materials all year long! Of course, you’ll still get higher numbers of these items in slot machines, but we hope this will help add a little spice to gameplay if nothing else.

This update will be out soon and following that – basic crafting! Expect to ferment, pickle, jar, refine, and more with our basic crafting update.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more!
